The Midnight Jumpsuit

They say that you must always stay true to your own style. That is because style comes from within. It is not trends, or what others are wearing. It is what you want to wear and how you want to wear it. My style for one is ever evolving. I find myself walking through a store and looking at items that perhaps I wouldn't have looked at yesterday.

If you have been following me for a while, this outfit may come as a surprise because usually I wear things that some people may regard as daring. I see so many posts condemning immodesty. Women are said to have no respect for themselves and would be the reason for sexual assaults on them. Because she provoked him, right? That frame of mind is wrong on so many levels. It is precisely because of women being judged for everything, that we live in a society where we constantly worry about what people are going think if we're just ourselves. Am I too fat, am I too skinny, am I too this or am I too that? If I wear a shorts on a hot day because I really like to feel free and I have embraced my body and am comfortable with who I am, will I be called an attention-seeking whore? Well in this hateful society that we live in, the answer to these questions will probably be yes.

In the end, we don't live life freely. Many people say they do things the way they want when it's obvious that they are conforming to what has been imprinted into their heads as the right way. So in a manner of speaking, they are doing what they want to do but they may just be doing it with a mindset that has already been molded by their cultural or religious upbringing. I embrace the differences amongst all of us and I accept that there are people who like things that I may not. It's sad when females look down on other females and encourage the subordination of women. If there's anything that makes my blood boil, it's that.

I take my hat off to those who come from very stringent cultural or religious backgrounds, but are still able to have an open mind to others who come from complete different backgrounds and do things completely different to them by accepting that there is more than one way of life and that we are all going in the same direction.

I really love this quote by Chimamanda Ngoze Adichie, who calls herself a happy feminist:

" We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings in the way that boys are. We Teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls, you can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful, otherwise you will threaten the man. Feminist - a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. "

But back to where I started. My stlye is ever evolving and this jumpsuit is a reflection of that. I saw it in the store, liked it, tried it on, still liked it and the rest is herstory. I love the soft feminine chiffon fabric and gold plate in the front. Black and Gold always makes a stunning combination!
